Burt was a Senior Aircraft Maintainer during the Korean War at Luke AFB. He had a distinguished career at IBM until his retirement in 1987. He was an active member of Nimmonsburg UMC for 51 years, served on many committees, worked bazaars, banquets, and chicken BBQs alongside his buddy Dick Oakley. Burt loved to bowl, and to picnic in his backyard by the pool. Many recall the storybook home on Reynolds Road. And the one on Wilson Hill as well: ALWAYS with a sharp, meticulously detailed car in the driveway! Burt eventually started camping with the family, taking them up and down the eastern seaboard, Myrtle Beach a favorite destination. Many friends joined them throughout the years. Once the children were grown, they often traveled with friends to campgrounds or popular Time Share vacation spots. He and Billie even took up skiing. Burt was the forever optimist no matter the obstacles. He managed to maintain a positive and often humorous outlook. He led by example; none so remarkably as in the care of his wife, Billie: at home through her prolonged illness and eventual passing. Since Burt’s large family was his pride and joy, he considered it a huge blessing to celebrate his recent birthday with a large part of this family surrounding him. He was admired, respected, and loved by everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed. The family wishes to sincerely thank Good Shepherd Fairview Home’s Independent Living, Rehabilitative Services, and Skilled Nursing staff for their kind and caring service to Burt during his 8 1/2 year residence. Many of these folks became his friends. The family will receive guests at Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church, 918 Front St, Binghamton, NY, on Friday, March 1st. Calling hours: 2-3pm, memorial service to follow at 3:00. A private family burial will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
