Catherine Neill

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine L. Neill of Binghamton, NY, who passed away on May 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Cathy, as she was affectionately called by those who loved her, enjoyed living life, spending time with her large family, and showing her appreciation for those around her through her love of baking and cooking. Her family and friends were the cornerstone of her life, whether through camping, shopping, taking adventures, or just chatting on the phone. Cathy cherished her time with those she loved. She was always there for her family and friends through the good times, the difficult times, and the sad times. She was the one we could count on when life became tough, whether to provide guidance, clarity, or just to give her opinion. A visit to Cathy’s house was met with love, laughter, coffee, and enjoying her incredible baked goods. Cathy worked hard throughout her life, always putting family first, and taking pride in her home, especially her decorations. Both inside and outside her home were carefully, and meticulously decorated for each holiday, especially Christmas, her favorite holiday. Cathy was known for her Christmas Eve party and summer cookouts and loved to entertain. Cathy also loved to laugh and had endless one liners and unique sayings, that would leave those around her in stitches. She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and we hope when you think of Cathy that you remember those good times, her laughter, endless love, and the special memories you shared with her.

Cathy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edward Neill, her mother, Elizabeth Tokos, 8 sisters and brothers including her loving sister, Grace Cron, and a grandchild, Jamie Lewis.

She is survived by her brothers George Cron, Windsor, NY, and Frank Cron, Whiteville, NC; her children, Debbie Ann Severance, Binghamton, NY; Paul Ribnicker, St. Petersburg, FL; Cathylee Orzel (Josh), Binghamton, NY; and Pam Rick (Paul), Binghamton, NY. As well as 10 grandchildren, Amanda Rick (Marvin Warren), Jason (Olivia) Griffith, Jacki (Jeremy) Buckland, Jennifer Griffith, Nicole (Mike) Leroy, Josh Severance, Steven Severance, Danielle (Dennis) Lewis, Megan Ribnicker, and Kyle Ribnicker. As well as 11 great-grandchildren, Ashaya and Gage; Andrew and Kaylee; Otto and Millie; Logan, Zack, and Zoe; Sarah and Tyler. As well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to thank special friends who have been there for Cathy along the way. Especially the families of Sue and Fred Skapik, Joe and Lori Frost, and Michelle Buckland.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated team at Guthrie Hospice and Mercy House for their care and support during Cathy’s final days. Their kindness and professionalism provided invaluable comfort to our family and to Cathy.

Based on Cathy’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations are made in Cathy Neill’s name to either Mercy House, 212 N McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
