Charles E. Pergl

Charles E. Pergl (Chuck), 81, of West Colesville, NY passed away Saturday December 9, 2017. Chuck was born in Schenectady, NY; son of Charles & Josephine. Chuck began his professional career at GE in Schenectady as a toolmaker, continuing on at GE Westover and then to IBM Endicott as one of the first engineers hired without a college degree. Chuck’s passions were restoring antique cars and collecting petroliana. As a lifetime member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and a charter member of Carlisle Events, he promoted the antique car restoration hobby for over 52 years. Many considered him to be an authority on gas globes and he had one of the largest collections of gas station memorabilia in the country. He turned his love of gas station related collectables into a business.Chuck loved telling a good joke or story, keeping in touch with his friends, co-workers and classmates from high school and organizing family reunions. He often told young people that there was a lesson in everything ….“Education costs money whether gained formally or informally.” He is survived by his family: children, Jeffrey & Patty Pergl, Janet Pergl, Jill & Bill Stackpole; grandchildren, Ann (Clint), Ian, Rachel (Brian) & Julie (Ryan); great grandchildren, Carter, Chase, Ryleigh, Cameron, Claire & Patrick; step-brother, John King (Linet); brothers in law, Don Morrett, Jed Baumgold (Julia); ex-wife, Marilyn Cannon (Ron); Jeff & Sigrid Gilkeson, Kristin & Christopher Lindsey and Jim Russell; nieces and nephews, Debi (John), Paul (Marcia), Jodi (Neil), Kelly (Mark), Erin (Bill), Jonathan & Jennifer. Chuck was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Morrett & Sharon Baumgold and brother, Leon Pergl and a nephew, Christopher Morrett.

The family would like to thank Home Instead Senior Care and the caregivers at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, third floor, for their loving care. He was a friend and resource to many and will be missed. Services will be private.
