Charles A. Shiffner ‘Butch/Charlie’, 80, of Port Crane, NY passed away at his home surrounded by the love and laughter of his family on Saturday June 1, 2024. Born on August 7, 1943 in New Brunswick NJ to Charles ‘Chick’ Shiffner and Mildred ‘Millie’ Gaunt. He graduated from South River High School in 1961. That was just the beginning of his life journey. He served in the Army as a Food and Sanitary Inspector, he oversaw over 50 in store restaurants and lunch counters as an area manager for Britts, JJ Newberry’s & McCrory Department Stores. He was a successful business owner throughout his years, with his most recent endeavor as Owner/President of Service Master Building Maintenance of Port Crane. For nearly 30 years his accomplishments, awards, and accolades were noticeable, from growth of business to top in sales. The achievement he was most proud of was the Ken Hansen Stewardship Award for Excellence in Community Service for the work he did locally with persons with developmental and physical disabilities.
Things he accomplished in his lifetime go truly without measure. Kind, caring, a friend to all, sweet, and hard working are just a few adjectives used to describe him.
He was an active member of The Binghamton Club for many years where his avid bowling skills often achieved high score awards.
Predeceased by his wife, Carolann Shiffner, who was his world for 50 1/2 years.
He is survived by his brother Richard Shiffner of Tempe, AZ, daughter Carol Shiffner, and son Cricket Shiffner both of Port Crane, his granddaughters Kamara Shiffner Korcykoski (Sheldon Johnson), and Keteri Shiffner both of Port Crane and grandson Caleb Shiffner of Port Crane, as well as the lights of his life his great grandchildren Maverick, Sydon, Malakhy Martin, & Solara, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was not only a provider in the sense that he created a beautifully stable foundation for our family life but he provided emotional support, he was always ready to lend a helping hand (there was no task or project that he couldn’t tackle), he was a provider of true friendship, laughter, and love to everyone he crossed paths with. If you were blessed in this life to know him you were blessed beyond measure.
The family will receive friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 4-6PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 282 Chenango Street, Binghamton on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY.
