Claudia May Rogers, born December 30, 1935 to Anna Petrigala May and Anthony May, fell asleep in the Lord on November 17, 2022 at 6:42 am at Wilson Hospital. Claudia grew up on Baxter St. in the First Ward, attended Woodrow Wilson, Binghamton Central and belonged to St. Michael's Orthodox Church for her entire life, singing in the choir since the age of 15. Claudia met Richard Rogers when they were both employed at the Highway Department. They married June 1, 1957 and welcomed their first child, Corinne in March 1962 and proceeded to have Dena, Ricky, Matthew and Adam. Our Mother was kind, loving, and stubborn at times, generous, always, and very funny. She had a sarcastic sense of humor( never mean-spirited) and spot on wit that we will all miss. Mom was always trying to learn and better herself. She was an excellent baker, an avid reader, loved to crochet, play the piano, sing, knit, garden, sew and embroider, work on jigsaw puzzles and watch her comedies. She taught herself to cut hair, and eventually attended Triple-City Beauty School and became a hair stylist. Mom taught herself to swim, since she never learned as a child and was a self taught choir director, heading two choirs, Seraphim and Cherubim, at St.Michael's. Both of the choirs sang beautifully under mother's direction and produced a few CDs, and performed at various venues. Music was her passion. There was always music in the house whether it be her own beautiful voice singing or listening to records while ironing or sewing in her sewing room( Queen, Judy Collins and the Beatles were a few favorites). Mom always made every holiday special, every birthday special. Our home was filled with love and happy times because she was the best mother anyone could have. Mom is predeceased by her parents, aunts, uncles and her dear sister Sandra. Survived by her loving, devoted husband of 65 years, Richard. Also survived by her brother, Joseph May and children Corinne Constable, Dena Lobacz, Ricky Rogers(Kay), Matthew Rogers(Lisa) and Adam Rogers(Johannah). Claudia leaves behind grandchildren, Dimitri and Antonia Lobacz, Emilyanna Constable, Noah Rogers, Brittney Rogers, Meagan Shiflett (Chris) and Gillian, Zachary and Alice Rogers, as well as great grandchildren, Kaidan and Kyra Shiflett and Beck and Rose Rogers.
The family will welcome friends on Saturday, November 26, 2022, 9:30am at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 296 Clinton Street, Binghamton. Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:30 and burial to will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
