Constance "Connie" Dale Crandall, 77, peacefully passed in her home on the morning of May 31st and went to be with the Lord after a long 20 year battle with cancer. She was surrounded and supported by loved ones in her final days and will always be in our hearts.
Connie was born on November 28, 1947 to the late Loretta Ortloff and Fredrick William Ortloff and was born in Binghamton, NY, where she grew up helping her mom raise her younger brother and sister after her father's untimely passing in 1973.
Connie continued to go through Binghamton school districts and went on from Binghamton High School to starting a career at the New York State Psychiatric Center until her retirement after 30 years. Throughout the years while working, Connie went on to become a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and great- grandmother.
In her final days, Connie enjoyed bird watching, little walks and soaking up the sun outside, along with watching her favorite shows with her family. Some of Connie's favorite memories throughout her life were going to church, enjoying summers at the lake house, vacations to the beach, or cruise trips with friends. Connie always loved being around people and always loved getting phone calls and hearing from close loved ones, or having people stop in just to say hello. Among all of these amazing memories and experiences, Connie's biggest joy and happiness in her life, came from her love for her family and grandkids.
Connie is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, George Crandall; her mother and father, Loretta and Fredrick Ortloff; and sister, Diana Smith. She is survived by many loved ones including her daughter, Betty Dumas and son-in-law, Mark Dumas; and her brother, Fred Ortloff and sister-in-law, Debbie Ortloff. Connie is also survived by her grandchildren Mark Dumas, Matt Dumas, Faith Hatch, Ricky Hatch, Colleen Dumas, and Taylor Riggie; great-grandchildren, Addison Dumas, Ayden Dumas, Isabella Dumas, Hailey Warner, Sydney Warner, Lucas Warner; and niece and nephew, Sherry Ortloff and Steven Ortloff, along with many others.
To have known Connie is one of the greatest gifts many of us will carry forever. Connie always had a special way of making anyone feel like family. Her love and nurturing energy made everyone gravitate towards her and no matter who you were or what your past was, Connie only saw the best in everyone. No matter what she was going through, Connie always made it a point to check in on people and go out of her way to make sure others were taken care of first. Up until the very end, Connie always maintained her kindness, her compassion, and especially her love for God. Connie’s faith was inspiring and knowing she has passed down messages of her faith and kindness to her family and loved ones, means her spirit and love will always be alive within us all. Knowing she is watching over us all now is just another blessing she has left us with, among the many others.
Thank you, Connie, for being a mother and grandmother to all of God's children.
