

Dawn Marie (Meek Davies) Bennett, 85, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Friday, May 30, 2025, after a long battle with chronic kidney disease at UHS General Hospital. Dawn was born in Oxford, NY on August 8,1939, daughter of the late Earl Baker and Mary Louise (Fox) Meek, of Bainbridge, NY. She was predeceased by her husbands, Randolph Davies of Afton and Carl F. Bennett of Port Crane, sister Sharon Meek, and stepchildren, Lynne and Larry Bennett. She is survived by her siblings, Dale (Ruth) Meek and Gail (Jim) Morrison, children John (Cathy) Davies, Christine (David) Kennicutt, and Brian (Jennifer) Davies, stepdaughter Cheryl Bennett, and her 7 grandchildren Ken (Angela) Davies, Mike (Marlaina) Davies, Amy Kennicutt, Jim (Amy) Kennicutt, Sean Davies, Christopher Davies and Samantha Davies. She also survived by two great-granddaughters, Hayley and Avaleigh Davies, brothers-in-laws Norman (Carrolyn) Davies and Terry (Karin) Bennett, and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dawn was a homemaker for many years, caring for her children and husband Randolph during his battle with cancer, in Afton, NY. She moved to Port Crane after marrying Carl in 1967, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Dawn was a waitress for 27 years at Zopp’s Lounge in Binghamton. She enjoyed her customers and socializing with members of the community. Dawn played in several bowling leagues, enjoyed gardening and collecting dishes, and was an avid reader. In the last 35 years of her life, Dawn was passionate about genealogy and loved digging into her family’s past. She enjoyed spending time at local libraries, town halls and cemeteries, tracing family connections and helping share information with others. She had several genealogy pen-pals she stayed in touch with for decades. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, playing card games, and going to the NJ shore.
Dawn will be remembered for her infectious laugh, kind heart, resilience, and ability to make friends everywhere she went. She will be remembered and missed by many.
Dawn’s Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 5th at My Uncle’s Place in Hillcrest from 1PM-5PM. She will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mercy House, UHS Palliative Care Unit, or the Broome County Library. In her memory, consider planting a burning bush or rose bush, two of her favorites, or spending time learning about your genealogical roots.
