

Dorothy Barber, 95, formerly of Chenango Bridge, passed away the second week of December in Tallahassee, Florida where she had resided near her son Jay and daughter-in-law, Susan for the past year and a half. Dorothy was born October 31, 1920 in Elyria, Ohio to parents who met on a steam liner while emigrating from England. She graduated from Skaneateles High School in 1938. Dorothy married O. Cleon Barber in August 1940 and eventually settled in Chenango Bridge where they raised a family of five children. Over the years Dorothy was employed at the Chenango Valley Central School cafeteria and was a Postal Clerk at the Chenango Bridge and Chenango Forks post offices. Dorothy was a past member of the Broome County Home Bureau, Nimmonsburg Rotary Inner Wheel and the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Faith Circle. She was an active member of the community and cared about all the people she met during her lifetime. Throughout her adult life, Dorothy's first priority was her husband and her five children whose lives have been blessed and enriched by her being a dedicated, kind and loving wife and mother. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many friends, doctors and professional caregivers in the Triple Cities area who provided comfort to Mom during her final years. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, O. Cleon, a son Max of Denver, Colo. and her sister Gladys Keep of Scott, NY. She is survived by her daughter Lolleen (Dale) White of Alpharetta, Ga., her son Dan (Florence) of Rochester, NY, her son Jay (Susan) of Tallahassee, Fla., her son Jon (friend Barbara Lawry) of Stamford, NY and her Rotary Exchange student son Peter (Lone') Koefoed of Aarhus, Denmark as well as several nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A celebration of Dorothy's life is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church with calling hours beginning at 9:30 am and a Memorial service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church in her Memory. Arrangements are with the Wm. R.
