Doug served his country with quiet steadiness in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving as the Postmaster of Europe. That same sense of reliability and care marked his working life as well, as he retired from IBM after 37 years of dedicated service.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Doug found his greatest joy in time spent with those he loved. His kind-hearted nature was felt most clearly in the everyday ways he showed up for his family.
Doug was a lifelong golfer and a member of the Sokol Golf League at Ely Park Golf Course, where the game offered both enjoyment and fellowship over the years.
Faith and community were also enduring parts of Doug’s life. He was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Doug was predeceased by his wife, MaryAnn V. Skinner; his father & stepmother, Joseph C. Skinner (Marie Rickamer); his mother and stepfather Dorothy Soper (Gilbert Bett); his sister, Joan Giancarli; and his infant brother, Robert Skinner. He is survived by his children, Stephen (Kris), of Oswego, NY, David (Jolene), of Elizabethtown, PA and Kathleen Panfini (John) of Scott Township, PA; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and his friends and neighbors who were like family.
The family would like to pass on their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Castle Gardens, Wilson Hospital, Mercy House of the Southern Tier, Binghamton VA Clinic and to Mike at Bella Pizza and John at Rockin Robin for the many meals they prepared for him.
The family will receive friends at the St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 9-10am with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10am.
