May 13, 1924 – June 8, 2018
Eugene Taren passed away on Friday, June 8th. Gene leaves behind his wife Carol and a family that was his greatest joy. Gene was born in Scranton, PA, the youngest of four children. He graduated from Penn State University after serving in the US Army in France during WW II. He met his wife of 66 years on a blind date in 1952 and married her 6 months later. They traveled the world together, visiting all seven continents and seeing many of the world’s natural wonders. His favorite trips were to China and New Guinea. Gene and Carol were members of Vestal Hills Country Club for 40 years and made many lasting friendships there and during their travels. Gene owned and operated Tarco Steel with the help of many dedicated employees. He believed that his employees were his most valuable asset. Gene lived his life with honesty, integrity and a zest for life. He never lost his sense of humor. Gene leaves behind his wife Carol, daughters Janet (Donald) Beal and Nancy (James) Shepard, grandchildren Craig Beal, Whitney Racketa, Alex Eames, Lauren Frank, and 6 great grandchildren. There will be no calling hours and the family will hold a private burial service. You may honor Gene through a donation to the Good Shepherd Foundation or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
