James E. Lamb, 91, of Port Crane, NY, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026. He was born April 8, 1935, James lived a long life marked by steady devotion to home, family, and the everyday work that quietly defines a good man’s years.
A graduate of Chenango Forks High School, James carried forward the values of diligence and responsibility that shaped his early life and remained evident in the way he approached each season that followed.
James was a United States Veteran and served with honor. He also spent many years in the hardware business, a fitting path for someone who valued practical skill, reliability, and the satisfaction of work done well.
Above all, James enjoyed spending time with his family. He shared 67 years of marriage with his loving wife, Betty Lamb, and found deep meaning in the closeness of those he loved and the life they built together.
In quieter hours, James truly loved being in his workshop, where patience and craftsmanship could have their full say. He also took simple pride in mowing the lawn—an ordinary task that, in his hands, became another way of caring for the place and people he called his own.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Jason & Jane Vida Lamb; his brothers, Michael Lamb & Fred Lamb (Fran); and his rubber toothed dog, Zeek.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Lamb; his son, Steve Lamb (Marie); daughter Linda Vail (Bruce); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa (Mason) Ashley (Trever) & Jason (Ashley); and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Helen Lamb, many nieces, nephews and special friends.
A Graveside Service will be held in the Chenango Valley Cemetery at a later date.
