Janet Freeman Kerr

Janet Freeman-Kerr, wife, mother and nana passed away on January 20th 2018 at age 86 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Janet was predeceased by husbands James E. Freeman and Robert Reynolds and survived by husband, William Kerr. Survived by sons David (Nancy Delsandro), Douglas (Christina Alfonsi), J. Scott (Dr. Janet Muhich) & a special Stepdaughter Barbara Wilfley and family. Grandchildren Daniel, Katie (Duncan), Jackie (Mike), James, Jeremy, Devyn, Amy (Brian), Brandy, Curtis, Abby and Alina. Great-grandchildren Madison, Colin, Quincy, Christopher, and Alessandra. Also survived by sister Linda Zemanick (Al), brother John Weslar (Karen), a very special lifelong friend Gladys Hughes and many nieces and nephews, especially Patti Williams, Jim Zemanick & Mary Savelli, who were so kind and thoughtful to her during her illness.

She was a loyal member of Ogden-Hillcrest United Methodist Church for 59 years and the first woman to serve on the Board of Trustees. She was a lifetime member of the National Association of Parents & Teachers and Woman of The Year of the Hillcrest Community Association in 1986. A member of the Hillcrest/Port Dickinson Community Garden Club for over 20 years and a charter member of the Kattelville Senior Citizens. Her unwavering faith, love of family and infectious smile were endearing to all that knew her. She especially loved her summers with family and friends at the St. Lawrence River and winters with the gang from Citrus Park in Bonita Springs, Florida. As she ascended into heaven and into the arms of the Lord, all that knew her could picture that big smile on her face while listening to “Orange Blossom Special”. Special thanks to the staff at Lourdes 1 West & Mercy House for taking such good care of our cherished Mother & Nana. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier. Calling hours will be held at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Wednesday from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at Ogden-Hillcrest United Methodist Church 1061 Chenango Street in Hillcrest on Thursday at 11 am.
