Jeanne O'Donovan

Jeanne O’Donovan, 100, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord surrounded by love on Friday, August 21, 2026. She is survived by her nieces Wendy Toman and her family Jennifer (Michael) Stevenson, Christopher (Courtney) Stevenson and family; Rita (Marv) Crisp and their family Theri (Curtis) L’Hirondelle, Adrienne (Wayne) Howlette and family, Melanie (Todd) Detweiler and family, Andrew (Amy) Crisp and son.

Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Harry O’Donovan, and her daughter, Maria O’Donovan, who passed only days before Jeanne from a long illness. She is also predeceased by her sisters, Bernice, Evelyn, and Rita as well as her many beloved pets over the years, namely her most recent cats Sam and Ben.

Jeanne was a wonderful and unique woman, mother, aunt and friend. She was a loyal employee of NYSEG for over 40 years. Jeanne loved to do ceramics and adorned her house with many of her creations. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a good glass of whiskey and going to the parade when she was still able. She loved gardening, and she often prepared and canned fruits and vegetables. You felt special if you received a jar of Jeanne’s jam, canned peaches, pears, applesauce or tomatoes. Jeanne made all the family holiday pies, and no one could make a better pie crust than her. She loved music, dancing, and old movies. She had a love for nature and watching birds from her front window, and one of her favorite hobbies was doing jigsaw puzzles. She took pride in her home and worked hard to maintain it, even at 100 years old.

You would often find Jeanne with rosary beads in her hands or around her neck. Praying was like breathing to her. Her prayers were precious to all in the family and many friends as they were powerful and often answered. There were times in her life that she would go to Mass daily. Religion was an essential part of her life.

Jeanne’s mind was sharp, even at her advanced age. She watched the news regularly and kept up with the changes in the world, and she could talk to you about them. She always had her television tuned to golf if her favorites were playing.

Jeanne was treated like family by her neighbors Mary Anne, Judy and Kathy who watched over her and helped her immensely in her declining years. She loved each of them dearly and kept them in her prayers. They were a godsend to Jeanne and her family.

The family will receive friends for a shared service for Jeanne and her daughter, Maria, at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Saturday August 29, 2026 from 10-11 am with a Funeral Service to follow at 11 am. A Private Burial will be held in the Chenango Valley Cemetery. Memorial donations in Jeanne’s name can be made to a charity of choice.
