

Joan Wittman died October 19, 2021, at Lourdes Hospital after a short illness. She was in her 90th year and is now at peace in the loving arms of her Lord & Savior. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Pearl Wittman and by her twin sister, Jane on October 1, 2019.
Joan and Jane were born on November 25, 1931. Joan served as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Binghamton City School District for 32 years. She received her BA and MA degrees in history from the State University in Albany, NY. She received the American History Award at Albany upon her Graduation in 1954. Later, she received her MS degree in Guidance from the State University at Oneonta, NY.
Joan was very active in the Binghamton Teachers’ Association. She held many different offices including President and she chaired many different committees over the years. Joan was a long-time member of Main Street Baptist Church. She taught a weekly Bible Study for many years and was often a guest speaker at many church activities. She was a member of The Beaver Lake Association in Windsor, NY where the family had a cottage for 75 years. Their family cottage was one of the first built on lake property. She and Jane were known at the lake for their beautiful flowers and lawn decorations.
Special thanks go to the many friends and neighbors that the Wittman twins have known through the years, including all the friends and neighbors on Binghamton’s East side and at Windsor’s Beaver Lake. Special thanks also for the care given to Joan by the staff at Lourdes Hospital.
At Joan’s request, there will be a Private Graveside Service at the convenience of the family in Vestal Hills Memorial Park with Fr. Geoff Doolittle officiating.
