Joseph A Zigmont, 72, of Castle Creek passed away peacefully at home on Sunday June 29, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was the owner and operator, with his son Richie, of R J Zigmont Excavation and Septic Service. He started the business in 1972 when he bought a septic truck from a farmer’s field and proudly grew the business over 53 years into a full service excavation and septic service. He served his many customers with honesty and integrity which are the same values he instilled in his son who now carries on the business with pride.
Joe was a hard working man but loved to share what downtime he had with his family and friends. He had many friends who stood by him throughout the years, especially his closest friends Bert Adams, Joe Calleo and Steve Lamb. They and others could always be found at the garage sharing stories and maybe a cigar. We thank you all for your friendship and support.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Richard and Frances Zigmont. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Ann Marie, his son Richie (Jessica), his daughter Nicole (Quin), his sister Diane (Ron) and his 3 grandchildren Brock, Mackenzie and Henry.
We would like to thank Dr. Thomas Martin at Lourdes Guthrie, Dr. Phillip Pady, Dr. Peter Kingham and Dr. Nancy Kemeny from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center who gave Joe 13 extra years that he never would have had. We also thank Guthrie Hospice for their special care at the end. Joe will be missed by all who knew and loved him and will be in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Guthrie Hospice of Vestal or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
The family will recieve friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, on July 3, 2025, from 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 4, 2025 at 10am. Burial will be in the Glen Castle Cemetery.
