Joyce M. Shaver

Joyce was born at home to her parents, Robert and Irene Leach, on July 30th during the 1935 flood.

She was predeceased by her first husband, William Pionteck, after 58 years of marriage; her older brother, Robert Leach, and special cousin, Paul Price.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 12 years, Carl Shaver; sister, Janet Ennis; brother, David Leach; daughters, Karen Titus, Susan Pionteck; son, William “Billy” (Dawn) Pionteck; step-daughters, Carla (Randy) Ganoung and Susan Foster; step-sons, Edward (Mary) Shaver and Gary Shaver (Sue Strok); 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Sharon, Jessica, and Andrew; 10 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews – to whom she was affectionately known as “Joycie”.

Joyce graduated from Whitney Point High School in 1953. She was an accountant and, alongside her daughter Susan, enjoyed a side business, J & S Bookkeeping.

A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, Joyce was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church, where she served in many different ways—as an auditor, hospitality worker, secretary, in Awana, and as a longtime choir member. She also sang in the choir at Alexandria Bay Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Bradenton, FL, offering her voice with quiet constancy and heartfelt devotion.

Joyce’s creativity and warmth were evident in the many ways she filled her time and welcomed others in. She played piano, enjoyed crafts, made quilts, designed floral arrangements, and loved playing board games with family. She also found deep enjoyment outdoors, pike fishing in the St. Lawrence River and inshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico while in Florida.

Joyce found happiness in travel and spending time with family—visiting Lancaster, PA, taking trips to her cousin Pauls Bed & Breakfast in Black Lake, NY, spending winters at Paradise Bay Estates in Bradenton, FL, and faithfully manning the Pionteck family cottages on Carnegie Bay Rd. in Alexandria Bay, NY for over 65 years.

The family is grateful to Guthrie Lourdes Hospice and the loving care of nurses and aides—Betsy, Marie, Gail, Carlie, Kim, and Christy. Special thanks to Cindy Snyder for loving care to Joyce over past several months.

Visitation will be held at Central Baptist Church, 1606 NY Rt 12, Binghamton, NY 13901, on September 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, immediately followed by a funeral Service at 12:00 pm. Final resting place will be Glen Castle Cemetery in Glen Castle, NY.
