To the Paetzold and Ryan Families,
We treasure the friendship that our family enjoyed with the Paetzold family for many years.  More recently, we enjoyed visits to Laurie and Mike's home when her siblings were in town.  Laurie was truly a wonderful person.  I recently came across this quote: "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy."  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Paetzold and Ryan family.

Laurie was an amazing individual who loved life and all it had to offer.  I am so blessed to have known her not only as a co-worker, but as a friend.  I had the pleasure of working with Laurie for six years at Hancock central and getting to know her outside of work through carpool and get togethers at her home.  Mike-- may God comfort you and the kids in this time of sorrow and grant you peace.  I miss and love you Laurie!

Laurie was one of those people who makes the people and circumstances around her better just by being there and know her. She was our neighbor, our babysitter, my student,our camping partner, enriching our lives and those of our kids,  The joy she took in being a teacher was palpable anytime you spoke to her. Her death is a great loss, and we send our condolences to Dick, Richard, her husband and children and her entire family.

Mike, Kaitlyn and Sarah, We are so sorry for your loss, what a wonderful upbeat person Laurie was, you are all in our thoughts and prayers, her memories will live on in your hearts for always xoxo

To the Paetzold and Ryan Families ~ Carl and I were so sorry to learn of Laurie's death.    She babysat for our kids when they were little and they always loved having her there.    It was no surprise that she became a wonderful educator as she was so smart and she always loved children.    The photo on this website is "so Laurie" ... always with a smile. Aunt Laurie... You were very good to me and were always a loving aunt.  I remember nothing but good days visiting Binghamton from when I was little and thank you for that.  You took a stray kid just as Mom did and made me feel loved and part of a family and it has stayed with me all of these years.  Your strength, laughter, love, and kindness are a lasting legacy. To Laurie's Family,  I wish to express my deepest sympathies on the passing of a great and wonderful person.  I worked with Laurie many years ago when there was a K-Mart on the Vestal Pkwy.  We even went on a vacation to Wildwood, NJ together.  Such a fantastic time.  She recently saw me at my present job and reminded me of that time in Wildwood.  Such a great, kind person.  Your family is in my prayers.

I'll always remember the good times and laughs we had while going through treatment together and sitting by your pool. My prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I went to grade school with Laurie at MacArthur school.  Had not seen her since grade school and ran into her awhile back at the hockey rink with her daughter.  Was nice to have had that opportunity to chat with her.  RIP Laurie!!!

Laurie was a wonderful teacher and a great friend.  When she first came to Hancock to teach, my son was in her class and it was a wonderful year for him.  During the years we had alot of fun at HCS parties; we attended her wedding to Mike--many fine memories during the years.  Rest in peace, Laurie; your time here on earth was well spent!

We were very sad to hear of Laurie's passing. Jim and I reflected on some of our memories of being at hockey tournaments with her. I have to admit, they made us laugh!!! We will miss her and remembering all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Laurie has been my good friend since Kindergarten. I moved away from Binghamton almost 26 years ago and I haven't made a another friend as good as Laurie.  So many memories and fun times. I will miss you always.

I was just talking about Laurie yesterday to someone about her match making skills. I was devastated to hear of her passing today.  Sorry we didn't know of all she was going through and sorry we were not there for you guys. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Plenty of great memories with Mike and Laurie.  I am saddened and at the same time blessed and inspired for knowing her.

To the Ryan and Paetzold families.   My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.  Laurie was at our house many times for overnights and just to play with my daughter Nancy.  I loved having her over.  I saw her every couple years and she always had a hug for me. So sorry for your loss.

Laurie and I were neighbors growing up-she lived on Spurr,I lived on Kane.  I have fond childhood memories of playing with her in our neighborhood. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

HCS just isn't the same without you. We all love you and miss you everyday, especially your smile and your laugh. You saw the beauty in each day and always put your family and students first. You were a true inspiration, a wonderful teacher, colleague, and friend. I'm so blessed and grateful that I had the opportunity to work with you over these past few years. You always made us laugh and you made teaching and learning a joy. My sincere condolences to the Ryan and Paetzold families in this time of sadness. May you rest in peace now as the angel that you are.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

I have so many fond memories of Laurie from travel hockey and parties at the Ryan house. Although I only worked at Hancock C.S. for two years, I remember Laurie as being a warm, friendly and generous co-worker. I only wish I'd known her longer. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. I'm so sorry for their loss.

There are no real words to help make a loss such as this any easier. Laurie and I have been pretty good friends thru the mid eight when we both began our new families as adults though we still managed to keep track of each other. I can only imagine the loss for her family. There is no kinder or more gentle person here is a little something I came up with.

The most extraordinary thing happened to me when I went into third grade--I was put into Miss Paetzold's class.  It was September of 1989, and since Miss Paetzold was fairly new to Hancock Elementary, I didn't know who she was; I prayed that my new teacher would be nice.  My prayer was answered a million times over.  My grief is overwhelming right now, so it's hard to put into words just how special and extraordinary she was not only to me, but to all of her students.  She loved each student equally.  She never showed any favoritism, and she made all of us feel special.  I felt like I could do anything because Miss Paetzold believed in me.  I never forgot her kindness and sense of humor, and when I became a teacher, I tried my best to emulate those qualities that came so easily to my beautiful third grade teacher.  We kept in touch through the years, and in every e-mail or conversation, she would talk about her two daughters.  To say she was a proud mom is an understatement.  It was clear that her family was the most important thing to her.  In her last e-mail to me a month ago, she was as upbeat as ever.  In fact, I had no idea just how sick she actually was.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family in this dark and difficult time.

To the most positive, loving, generous and caring person we had the pleasure of knowing. We will all miss you Laurie. You have touched all of our lives in so many ways- our memories fill our hearts. We love you!

To the Paetzold & Ryan families-
I am so saddened to hear of Laurie's passing.  We grew up on the same street and she used to babysit for my brothers and me.  We used to always have so much fun when Lauri babysat.  She was a few years older than me, but there were days that I would see her out while I was riding my bicycle and she would sit and talk as if were the same age.  I haven't seen her in years.  She was always such a kind and caring person, always so interested in everything that was going on in everyone's lives, and would always make time for everyone.  I feel so blessed to have known her.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Laurie and I were best friends in our early life-from age 5 until we lost touch in the middle school.  I have many fond memories of Laurie sleigh riding, many overnights at each others houses laughing until one of the mom's yelled at us to stop.  I am so sad I lost touch of her, but when I would occasionally see her out, usually at Home Depot we would talk about the memories we had and how our life was and she would be so proud of her family.  She was a true blessing and a loyal friend to all who knew her.  I am so sorry for your loss. Your family will be in my prayers.

Laurie, no more suffering, God won't allow it.  You are with all the angels, and they will watch over you, while you watch over your family.  You are truly blessed here on earth, as now in heaven.  I love you.

So many memories to share, my dearest sister..... so many laughs, so many shared tears. Never a holiday passed that we were not together. Never a day passed that we did not communicate. You made every person feel welcomed and loved..This world lost one of the most compassionate and kind woman I have ever known.  My world lost the sister who can never be replaced.
