Marjorie L. Kanick

Marjorie Louise Barrett Kanick passed gently on November 20, 2012 after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Kanick, and son, John F. Kanick III. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Schappert and son-in-law Emil, a son, Thomas and daughter-in-law Janet, and a daughter, Laurie Jacobson and son-in-law Timothy. Also seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margie was the consummate mother and grandmother. She loved baking and cooking delicious meals for her family and was happiest with a house full of children, music, and laughter. She loved the outdoors, especially the snow, wind, and watching the sky. She instilled a love of the arts in her children by frequent visits to the library and exposure to music of all genres. Some of her favorite hobbies were crocheting, reading, and watching the Yankees, especially Derek Jeter. Margie was an extraordinary woman who was loved by all who knew her. She had a generous and giving heart, the ability to talk to anyone, and was known for her friendly manner, good advice, and warm smile. Family always came first to Margie, from her own family to the many people who came to her for counsel and comfort. She was a wonderful mother and guide for countless people. Her warm-heartedness, loving, and benevolent nature, and strong determination made her an example to emulate. Sharing so little of her life here cannot sum up all she was, all she did, and all she gave. We will miss her presence, but are grateful to have had her in our lives. She would want us all to remember that love is stronger than death, and the bonds of family are forever. Visitation at the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY on Saturday, December 1, from 9:30 to 10:00am followed by a memorial service.
