On July 1, 2025, Mary Jo Hall McIntyre, gently passed away just six days short of her 100th birthday. Born on July 7, 1925, Mary Jo, as she was affectionately known, lived a life marked by dedication, intellect, and humor.
Mary Jo graduated from Elmira College with an associate’s degree in business in 1946. She was a well-known and respected professional in the legal community in Broome County and the State of New York for over 40 years, ending her career as the Deputy Clerk of Courts in Broome County. She worked with and mentored lawyers and judges alike, leaving a lasting impact on her community.
Her personal interests included classical music and art, and she served as a docent at the Roberson Museum for many years. Mary Jo was celebrated for her quick wit and sense of humor, which everyone enjoyed and experienced.
Mary Jo was predeceased by her husband Ray McIntyre in 1979, her parents John & Tempa Hall, and her brother John Robert Hall. She is survived by her son Michael R. McIntyre (Susan), grandsons Eric Brown (Stephani) and Matt Brown (Alina), granddaughter Rachel Lewis (David), and great-grandchildren Alexandra Brown, Katherine Lewis, Mitchell Brown, and Clare Lewis. She also leaves behind beloved nieces Jody (David) Swartout, Julee (Frank) Cowen, Bobbi (Doug) Smorol, and Stacy Hall, as well as many great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is remembered by her adopted family, Suzanne & Frank Shaw, and their son Frankie.
In 1979, as a recent widow at age 52, Mary Jo taught herself to drive and obtained her first driver's license. She mastered many computer skills, which allowed her to maintain her extensive network of family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY, on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 11 am to 1 pm, with a Memorial Service to follow at 1 pm. A private graveside service will be held in the Chenango Valley Cemetery.
