Phil was born on February 23, 1945, in Deposit, New York, to Philip and Dorothy (Gray) Seymour. He spent his early years on the family farm in Johnny Brook (Cannonsville, NY) before relocating with his family to Bainbridge, New York, where they operated a dairy farm. He graduated from Bainbridge-Guilford Central High School in 1965 and continued his education at the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical College in Morrisville, New York, where he earned a degree in Automotive Technology.
That education launched a lifelong career as a talented and respected mechanic. Phil's skill, integrity, and strong work ethic eventually led him to proudly own and operate Phil's Complete Auto Repair Shop (Phil's CARs) in South Burlington, Vermont. Even after retirement, he continued doing what he loved through Phil's Small Engine Repair, operating from his well-equipped home garage in McDonough, New York.
Phil moved to the Burlington, Vermont, area in the early 1970s. There he met the love of his life, Pamela. The two shared 31 wonderful years of marriage before her tragic passing in 2007. A man of deep faith, Phil was an active member of North Avenue Alliance Church in Burlington, Vermont, where he served as a leader in the Christian Service Brigade and formed many lifelong friendships.
Phil was an avid snowmobiler who eagerly anticipated every winter season and was always praying for snow. He enjoyed countless riding adventures with family and friends and became well known in the snowmobiling community. He competed and won in snowmobile drag racing events in Malletts Bay, Colchester, Vermont, served as President of the Malletts Bay Lakers Snowmobile Club, and later became an active member of the Saxon Hill Riders Snowmobile Club of Essex, Vermont. Beyond snowmobiling, Phil loved camping, fishing, and creating lasting memories with his children.
After retiring, Phil returned to his home state of New York to be closer to family. It was then that he met Sue, who would become his beloved wife. They were married in 2013 and recently celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2026. Together, Phil and Sue built a joyful life filled with faith, friendship, and family. They attended Berean Bible Church in Greene, New York, where they developed many meaningful relationships. Later, when homeownership became too burdensome, they moved to Brookdale Castle Gardens in Vestal, where they continued making new friends and enjoying life together.
Phil felt a calling in retirement to give back and volunteer for Samaritan's Purse, a Christian disaster relief organization. He traveled to many disaster zones to urgently help those whose lives had been turned upside down by natural disasters.
Phil was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. He possessed a quiet wisdom, an unwavering sense of conviction, and a commanding presence that many will remember through his authoritative voice and trademark raised eyebrow. He led by example, worked tirelessly, loved deeply, and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Susan Seymour; his children, Angela (Brad Benoure), Aaron (Meghan), Karen (Andrew) Wheeler, and Shannon (Mark) Schroeder; his stepchildren, Rob (Kay) Eberz, Erik (Kate) Eberz, and Lisa (Thor) Knutstad; his sisters: Diane (Wayne) Marble, Faith (Ron) Horne, and Lois Dumond (Larry Cerverizzo); sister-in-law, Linda Seymour; his cherished grandchildren: Kobe, Ellie, Izzie, Ezra, Kinsley, Joel, Erica, Skyler, Jesse, Cameron, and Carson. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Dorothy Seymour; his brother, Gary Seymour; his wife, Pamela Seymour; his daughter, Kimberly Worthington; his granddaughter, Brandee Williams; and his grandson, Joshua Halvey.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at Berean Bible Church, 109 County Road 2, Greene, NY 13778.
A burial and graveside service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Shelburne Village Cemetery, Church Street, Shelburne, VT 05482.
