He is survived by his son Mark R. Williams, daughter Tracey Williams and daughter Karen Williams-Allabaugh and her husband Rick; grandchildren Lili, Sam and Grace; sister Judy Porter and his cat Sunni.
Richard was a graduate of Freeport High School, LI and after graduation joined the Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, he served on a lighthouse station off of Long Island. Dad loved to share his stories about his time on the lighthouse and was extremely proud of his service. A day didn't go by without him wearing his Coast Guard Veteran hat whenever he went out. After being Honorably Discharged by the Coast Guard, he then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego. This is where he met the love of his life, Gail. After graduating SUNY Oswego, he went on to receive his master’s degree in education. He worked at Chenango Valley Central School District for his entire career where he taught Shop, which included woodworking and automotive repair classes. While at CV, he also taught drivers’ education. We were always surprised when we would be out together how many times a "stranger" would come up to us and notice dad and then comment how they took one of his classes or he taught them how to drive. He was always happy to hear from his former students.
Other than his love of being outdoors and reading, he was an avid locomotive hobbyist. He loved to read and learn about the local tarin lines which served our area over the years. His fascination of the railroads extended to his personal HO train collection and his building of scale steam engines.
He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who got to know him. A Celebration of Doc’s Life will be held at a later date.
