Robert P. Muth

Robert “Bob” Muth passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 15, 2026, at the age of 94. Bob spent most of his life in Binghamton NY. He retired from IBM. He was also a longstanding member and usher at Fairview United Methodist Church.

Bob was a devoted husband to his wife Elizabeth “Peg” Muth. On September 1, they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. In addition to Peg, he is also survived by his three children and their spouses, Dave (Lynne), Darlene (Mike), and Eric (Tammy); eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. An only child, family meant everything to Bob. Bob made every effort to attend his children’s life events, and throughout their lives made it a priority to be present for as many family milestones as possible.

The one place that could pull him away was Lake Steere. His parents, Phil and Addie built a cottage there when he was a baby, and it held a special place in his heart. He faithfully served the Lake Steere Club on the “posting committee” and rarely missed an annual meeting.

Bob’s main hobby was deer hunting, a passion he pursued successfully well into his 80s. When the time finally came that he could hunt no more, he simply put down his gun and walked away. He leaves behind not only wonderful memories, but a deer camp full of hunters who will carry on the tradition in his honor.

Bob was meticulous about his “flat top” haircut. A man of routine, he insisted he could grow it out if he wanted and would brush it daily with a hard bristle brush until it almost fell out. He was a man of strong opinions who could be stubborn. But beneath that strong-willed exterior was a deeply loving husband, dedicated father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

We will all miss you Dad, Pop, Poppy, Gramps, and Grandpa. Your legacy lives on in all of us.

The family will receive friends at the Fairview United Methodist Church, 254 Robinson Street, Binghamton, NY on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 12-1pm with a funeral service to follow at 1pm. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
