A graduate of Binghamton High School, Rose devoted her life to home and family as a homemaker, giving of herself in quiet, steady ways that made others feel safe, welcomed, and cared for.
Rose’s hands were rarely still. She found enjoyment and purpose in ceramics, and she lovingly crocheted mittens and hats for babies, as well as lap robes for those who felt the chill—simple gifts that carried warmth far beyond their stitches. Rose enjoyed sharing her legendary popcorn balls to everyone.
Rose was a member of Sarah Jane Johnson Church, where her faith and commitment to community were part of the rhythm of her life.
Beloved by those who knew her, Rose will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who opened her heart and home widely—taking in neighborhood children as her own and providing a wonderful home for her family. Her selfless care shaped generations and will be carried forward in the lives she touched.
Rose was predeceased by her husband, Garland Smith; her parents, Walter & Viola Clark; her sons, Robert Smith and David Smith; her special daughter-in-law, Phyllis Smith; and her grandson, David “DW” Smith.
She is survived by her children, Raymond Smith (Cindy), Michael Smith (Bonnie), Susanne Swackhammer (Al), and Tim Smith (Judy); grandchildren Steven & Alicia, Scotty, Theresa, Danielle, Matt, Stephanie, Stacy & Christian. Many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
