Born on June 30, 1949, Tom was a lifelong resident of the first ward, Binghamton, New York—a place he loved deeply and proudly called home his entire life. He was predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Philomena Abbadessa; his brother, Anthony D. Abbadessa; and his beloved nieces, Angel Dupuy (Gregoris) and Gina Gregoris.
Tom is survived by his loving children: Celeste (Thomas) Steinke, John Paul (Amber) Abbadessa, and Juliana Abbadessa. He was a devoted and adoring grandfather to Lorenzo, Xavier, Cordelia, and Filomena Steinke, Annabella Abbadessa and Jade Florance each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his dearest sister, Rose Gregoris; his best friend and cousin, Rick Gennett; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Binghamton High School, Class of 1968, Tom was a proud member of the AZ fraternity. Even in his youth, he was known as kind, smart, handsome, and popular — qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. Tom was anything but quiet or reserved. He was loud, lively, fiercely loyal, and full of life, with a larger-than-life presence that could light up any room. His Italian heritage was a meaningful part of his life. He loved to share stories and memories, knew every song lyric to Frank Sinatra, and enjoyed singing and dancing. Tom had a sense of humor regardless of the circumstances. His laughter was contagious, his opinions strong, and his loyalty to those he loved unmatched.
Tom was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Binghamton, where his Catholic faith was not only practiced, but joyfully lived. His faith guided his values, shaped his character, and anchored his life. He was an active member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2953, in Johnson City, New York, an organization that reflected his deep commitment to faith, service, and community.
Above all else, Tom valued his family, was a proud father, and his children were the center of his world. He loved boldly, loudly, and stood by those he cared for. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless memories made brighter by his unforgettable spirit.
Tom will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love, gratitude, and faith in God’s promise of eternal life. As Tom often said, "always do the right thing"
