

Bruce Vanderslice Schneider, 83, of Coram, NY and Hanover, ME, passed away on Tuesday December 2nd, 2014 at Stony Brook University hospital in Stony Brook, NY. He will be waked on Thursday December 4th, 2014 between 5 – 8 PM at the OB Davis Funeral Home. 4839 Nesconset Hwy. Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776 (631) 473-0360. Bruce was born on January 8th, 1931 and lived in Queens, NY until marrying Viola Sirico on 08/30/1953. He attended Colgate University and SUNY New Paltz where he earned a Masters Degree in Education. He went on to become a curriculum supervisor in the Massapequa School System. Bruce also was in the insurance business much of his life and is the founder of a successful marine insurance agency, Bruce V. Schneider Associates. One of Bruce’s proudest accomplishments was receiving a Fulbright scholarship to participate with a group of 26 US educators who traveled to Israel, worked with the Ministry of Education and created a national education curriculum on the Holocaust for use in US schools. Bruce was also committed and involved in the work of The Compassionate Friends, a support organization for parents who have lost children. Bruce is survived by his wife Viola and sons Bruce and Craig, daughters in law Marlene, Annmarie and Diane, brother Robert and grandchildren Nicole, Daniel, Jacqui, Alyssa, Ashley, Allison, Steven and Brandon. He is preceded in death by his son Scot, father Nathaniel and mother Dorothea. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the many friends that provided comfort and support in this difficult time.
