Next to standing on the yellow footprints at Paris Island, the most nervous I have ever been was the day I met Don Kane. At the time I had only known his daughter Gloria for about 3 weeks...Gloria insisted I meet her Parents and I was completely fine until she told me Her Dad was a retired Marine Master Sergeant, and her mother was a retired Police Detective. It was obvious how much Gloria loved and respected her Parents and although very nervous, I put myself up to the challenge. I remember walking through the door at their Calinda Cay beach house on North Topsail Beach, NC November of 2001. Don's first words to me were, "I hear you're nervous to meet me. Want a beer?" We sat, had a wonderful dish of Robin's famous mac and cheese and swapped stories and laughed. At this time I realized why Gloria's relationship with her Mom and Dad was so special...It was the way they loved each other.

Over the last 17+ years since that day, I have been fortunate enough to have had the support, love, and guidance of one of the most genuine Men I have had the pleasure to meet. Don has been my Marine Corps Brother, Father-in-Law, and trusted mentor for almost all of my Adult life. Don's legacy lives on through those of us fortunate enough to have had some time with him. Love and Miss You!!

There is so much that can be said about Don Kane. I was one of the people Don told that "the greatest gift you will ever learn is just to love and be loved in return." Don carried that one step further; he taught many of us to love.

In the final scene of Saving Private Ryan, we saw an aged Private Ryan collapsed on his knees at the gravesite of the man that saved him, Captain Miller, when he turned to his wife with tears in his eyes and asked her, "tell me I was a good man"

Don is my Private Ryan and yes Don you are and were a "Good Man" We love you and Robin.
