I didn’t know Jean that well. I went to see her for help in my personal life but, unfortunately I wasn’t able to commit to a scheduling time...I could tell after talking with her through a session that she was very understanding... I was going to To if she was still practicing and I came a across this  memorial..
I was really sad to hear that she passed away a few years ago..
So sad to hear reading these other memories about her she touched a lot of lives..

Jeannie was a bright light in my life while I  attended graduate school at Stony Brook. She was a fabulous teacher who made us laugh and learn and develop a true understanding of what it meant to do social work. She was also my first therapist who respected and honored my feelings. I will forever be grateful for her presence in my life and hope that she is resting in peace. I know her light will continue to shine on her family that she loved so deeply. I am sorry for your loss but she will live on in all of you.

Jeanie was one of the best people I ever knew and I am honored and proud to have known her. She was brilliant, funny, insightful, caring, loving and the best kind of friend anyone could ask for. She helped so many people in her work and touched so many lives, spreading much needed good in the world. I would always laugh when she would tell me about how much she disliked using computers and the crazy people in the mallJeanie was truly an inspiration and taught me so much. I miss her dearly but I know she is looking out for all of us, most especially her family, of whom she was immensely proud.

Jean was a light in the darkest of times for many people, always offering her love, support and amazing wisdom. In her own words to me at one such time, "life gives us chances to love unconditionally and tests our ability to do this." May we each find that love for her as she leaves us and find a way to continue her work, her love, her joy for life and family!

I was a student at SB 2002 and had Jean for the Death and Dying elective for Masters in Social Work. We all loved the class and loved her. I then started working at St Charles and went to her for supervision. When I was going thru a divorce I went to her for pvt therapy. During my divorce I was having a really bad night  my pipes froze in my house and I was in sort of a crisis- I went up to stop and shop to see if I could find a portable heater and I ran into Jean. She told me to come to her house and she would put me up until I took care of the problem. She told me she had an extra couch/bed and blankets and I could come over anytime!  I have family/ friends in the area and I got a plumber to take care of the problem later that night, so I didn't need to take her up on that.  I will never forget her kindness, sincerity, and generosity when I was feeling really down. Years later she wrote a wonderful letter of recommendation for me as part of the application for the PhD program in Social Welfare@ SB and I was accepted. I am now in my 3rd year. I haven't spoken to her in a while and was not aware that she was ill. I wanted to introduce myself at the wake but I got all choked up and couldn't. I wanted you to know that she really was a positive influence in my life and I will always remember her with a big smile, a light - such a beautiful positive women. I am going to miss her. I am so very sorry for your loss.

It is hard to believe she is gone. She was such a vibrant and generous person. I have fond memories of Jeanie going back to high school when we all were friends and part of what we called "the Mob." In later years she was really proud of her family. May she rest in peace and the Lord heal you from this terrible loss. With love and prayers Carol and Buddy Griffin
