Born on May 27, 1940, in the Bronx, New York, Gladys lived a life centered on faith, family, creativity, and resilience. She was the beloved wife of over 50 years to her late husband, Frederick, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Gladys was the loving mother of Steven Greco (Gina) and Lorianne Venza (John), and the devoted grandmother of Alecia Greco, Kiera Venza, Olivia Greco, Sofia Greco, and her beloved late grandson, Garrett Venza. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Marguerite Pelosi (Ralph), Miriam Carillo (Joe), and was predeceased by her brothers, Tony Maccarello (survived by Rose) and John Maccarello (survived by Geri).
Family was the heart of Gladys' life. After Frederick's retirement, the two spent countless happy days at their cabin in upstate New York, where they welcomed family to gather and create what they lovingly called their "great memories by the lake." Those treasured moments together will remain a lasting legacy for all who shared them.
A gifted seamstress with extraordinary talent, Gladys created beautiful theater and show curtains that reflected her dedication and craftsmanship. She was also an accomplished ceramic and pottery artist, an avid crafter, and had a remarkable eye for floral design. She lovingly created the floral arrangements and bows for both of her children's weddings, making each celebration even more personal and memorable. Her creativity extended into many aspects of her life, and she was known for her birthday bundt cakes, especially the chocolate with vanilla icing ones that the family looked forward to. All of these wonderful talents brought beauty and joy to those around her.
Gladys was also an enthusiastic collector of antique dolls, building an impressive collection over the years. She found simple happiness in sitting on her porch in her rocking chair, enjoying her coffee and watching and feeding the birds that visited her yard, enjoying the peaceful moments they brought each day.
Known affectionately by her family as "the toughest lady we know," Gladys demonstrated extraordinary strength and determination throughout a remarkable 15-year battle with lung cancer. Her courage, resilience, and unwavering spirit inspired not only her loved ones but also the doctors and caregivers who witnessed her incredible perseverance.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, Gladys leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, strength, and devotion to family that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
