It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John P Haffner, who passed away on September 4th 2020, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a kind and loving partner to his wife, as well as an amazing father to their sons. He is survived by his wife Dixie, sons John, Jason, Jarrot and Justin, son-in-law John, mother Alice, brothers Matthew and Mark, as well as his best friend and faithful companion Bronson.
John was born on April 13, 1948 in Queens, NY to Alice and John Haffner. He was the first born of four brothers, Mark, Paul and Matt. After college he worked as a tool and die maker. John served in the United States Army as an E4 Specialist and, although originally trained for Vietnam, his orders sent him to Kitzingen, Germany in August of 1970, where he served 22 months. On April 17, 1972 he married his wife Dixie and they started their lives together as a family.
John was like a father to many and was always there for support whenever needed. He loved his motorcycles and racecars, hunting and playing cards with his pals as well as trips on the boat. John also loved to fly his remote controlled model airplanes and in his later years, he enjoyed going down through the Village of Port Jefferson and catching a cruise to the islands with his wife. Although a man of few words, John had a very unique sense of humor and always had a joke to make everyone smile. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
John will be forever in our hearts, loved and missed always.
