Jon Arthur Hucke, age 84, of Long Island, New York passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024. Doting husband of Sarah Dyroff, with whom he is now reunited with after eleven long years. Together they raised four boys- no lean feat. Jon is survived by his children and their spouses; Robert (Brigitte) Goeller, Jon (Elizabeth), Richard (Matthew), and Kevin (Randy), as well as his grandchildren; Laura, Freya, James, and Vincent. Beloved brother of Rosemary Cohen and uncle to Vanya A. Cohen, and great uncle to Julian and Liam Cohen and brother-in-law to Dolores Dyroff, and uncle to Debbie Carman.
Jon was something of a history buff. He could regale you with stories of Viking conquest or the most obscure military engagement you've never heard of, and you'd leave the conversation enlightened. He was fascinated by the inner workings of the military, so much so that he led an extensive military career, first in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961, and later in the Army National Guard and Reserves from 1976 until the year 2000. Despite his immense pride in being a veteran, Jon never let his career cloud what really mattered to him; his family. His children recall tagging along with dad to work and on training weekends, describing the memories fondly. Whether they were at the movies watching the Star Wars trilogy for the umpteenth time, or up at Fort Drumm climbing on the tanks, they were with Dad and that's what was important. The movies were always a bonding point between Jon and his boys, from sci-fi to Sunday night football; J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!
Jon is remembered warmly as a family man and soldier, proud of both until the very end.
A burial with army honors for Jon will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11 AM, at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, New York 11933.
