Mrs. McFadden, known as “Fifi” all her life, attended Washington Irving high school from 1935 through 1939, actively involved in cheerleading, and drama club as well as many other activities.
At a time when it was still rare for women to pursue secondary education, she attended Mount Saint Vincent College, in Riverdale, NY, from 1939 through 1943, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in English.
She married John McFadden of Pocantico Hills, NY in December of 1943. Within weeks he was sent to the Pacific theater of combat with the U.S. Marine Corp, returning from the war, back to Tarrytown, in 1946, where they raised five sons.
Mrs. McFadden and her family relocated to Seaford, Long Island in 1959. In 1964 she began a lengthy and rewarding career teaching high school English in Bethpage, New York, where she became a respected member of the faculty and beloved mentor to her students. She retired in 1990.
She is survived by:
Her son Nicholas McFadden and his wife Phyllis of Mt. Sinai, NY, her grandchildren Michael (Dawn), Laura, and Matthew (Kaity), and her five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jillian, Michael, Katelyn, Ryann, Matthew and Olivia.
Her son Philip McFadden and his wife Kimberley, of Essex, NY, her grandchildren, Aubrey (Jason), Erin (Nick) and John (Kelly), and her twelve great-grandchildren: Ethan, Evan, Caleb, Grant, Talia, Calista, Lukas, Hailey, Leila, Sarah, Jack and Meghan
Her son Brian McFadden of Manorville, NY; her grandson’s Daniel (Carolann) and Benjamin; her great-granddaughter Molly, and one on the way.
Her son Patrick McFadden and his wife Julie of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren Kate, James, Dominick and Julia.
