Obituary of Philip J. Boylan
Philip J. Boylan, age 91, of Coram, New York passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Joan. Loving father of Kathleen Boylan, Joan Boylan (Joseph Tuminello), the late Patrick, the late Christine and the late Philip. Adored brother of Eileen McGloin (John). Cherished uncle of Bryan McGloin. Phil is also survived by many more loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. A visitation for Philip will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of christian burial on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 10 AM at Infant Jesus R.C. Church, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Port Jefferson, NY 11777. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd, Calverton, New York 11933. Our dad was born in Astoria in 1931 and graduated from St Joseph Grammar School in 1945 and Bishop Loughlin High School in 1949. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-1953. He married his sweetheart, Joan in 1952 and together they raised 5 children. He joined the New York City Police Dept in 1955 and spent 30 years serving the city. Besides his family, he had several passions. Fast-Pitch Softball energized him - he pitched and switch-hit well into his 70’s with guys less than half his age. He loved the Brooklyn Dodgers and after they left he became a Mets fan. Al Jolson was his favorite singer - we’ve watched The Jolson Story so many times we can quote dialog for the whole film. Gardening always brought him joy - we think he was a farmer in a former life. Late in life he discovered a way to own racehorses by buying shares in them through “My Racehorse”. Watching them race (and win) brought him so much joy. Our Dad made us laugh every day of our lives - what a gift! He lived to bring joy to all he met. Any challenges he faced he handled with an inner strength that never wavered. He had an incredible ability to always have a positive outlook on life. While we will miss his presence, we will cherish all the joyful memories he gave us. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Long Island State Veterans Home, Administration Office, 100 Patriots Road, Stony Brook, NY 11790.
