Phyllis Trennert, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York. She was born in Brooklyn on August 29, 1936, to the late Fiore and Mary De Sena. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Trennert and devoted mother of Jason and his wife, Bevin, of Manhattan; beloved grandmother of Dominic and Marie; dear sister of Steven, Marilyn, and Richard, and the late Ralph, Frank, Elsie (Rossi), and John. She was a beloved aunt to 16 nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was raised in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn where she was graduated from Lafayette High School and Brooklyn College, cum laude, majoring in English. She attended the Columbia School of Journalism at which time she met her late husband of 42 years Richard Trennert, who passed away in 2005. She was a devoted wife and mother and taught in the New York City and Long Island’s Hauppauge public schools for 30 years. She was certified to teach both English and Italian.
Phyllis derived great enjoyment from spoiling her grandchildren, reading and writing, following politics, and indulging in all things Italian. She possessed both a sharp mind and a wonderful sense of humor. She adored dogs, her latest named Paolo.
She was interred at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Port Jefferson with her treasured Richard on Tuesday, October 1st. A Catholic Memorial Mass will be held at Sts. Simon and Jude in Brooklyn on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, at 11:45am.
