Rita A. Haracz on September 9, 2021. She is survived by her children Eric Haracz, Kim DiGiovanni, and Christine Birben as well as her grandson, Bektas Birben. Rita will be laid to rest with her late beloved husband, Edward.
Upon receiving her BA & MA in History from Stony Brook University, she would go on to become a Three Village School District Social Studies Teacher at Paul J. Gelinas Jr. High School from 1968-1985, shaping many young minds along the way. Rita was a 16-year member of Board of Governors for the Quay North Condominium Association at Old Port Cove, North Palm Beach, Florida.
Along with being an avid reader and expert of the Wall Street Journal’s crossword puzzles, Rita was a fan of the arts. Many-a-trips were taken into New York City to enjoy the theater and to take in the French impressionist paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Rita’s life had been full of adventures: from sailing open waters off Long Island with her daughter, to her many world travels to places like Europe, South America, Turkey Asia, the Caribbean-wherever they were going so was she.
Throughout her final year Rita lived her life joyfully with tremendous hope, and high inspiration from her doctors and supremely skilled medical team at the Florida Cancer Research specialists all of whom she grew to know and love. The family has requested no flowers to be sent, instead for those that wish, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, 5985 Silver Falls Run, Suite 210, Bradenton, FL 34211 where she received such expert and compassionate care.
Reposing at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.
A visitation for Rita will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
