

Robert P. Butler, "Bobby" or "Robert Lee" as he was affectionately known, was a bright and shining light in the lives of all who knew him. He was a beloved resident of Coram, NY, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on June 22, 1950, in Hempstead, NY, Robert lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to his family, friends, and community.
Known for his strong work ethic, Robert began working at the age of 10, and passed down his dedication and resilience to his family. Robert graduated from Bellport High School, and went on to SUNY Farmingdale State college. While in college, he enjoyed participating in theatre and the arts, acting in college plays. From there Robert pursued a career in the medical field which ultimately landed him at Brookhaven Hospital where he worked for over 25 years in various roles, and became a Hemodialysis technician.
Robert always had a passion for helping people, and making people laugh. He enjoyed listening to music, playing spades, and loved playing yahtzee. He enjoyed having fish frys on Fridays and eating crabs. He was an active parent who enjoyed going to field day, and being a chaperone on field trips. He was Artistic and creative and was the best at working on school projects with his kids.
Robert was the cherished husband of Phyllis, with whom he shared 30 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Robert P. Jr. (Natallia), Barbara Butler (fiancé Jermaine Stanley), William Bush III (Phyllis), Alexus Butler, Alyssa Gholson-Butler, Mia Gholson-Butler, and Lilliana Bush-Butler. As a proud and devoted grandfather, he adored his grandchildren, Olivia and Lilliana Bush-Butler.
Robert was the treasured brother of Willen McGary (Lester), Christine Rountree, Ernest Barrett (late Claudia), Anthony Winn (late Elizabeth), Ray Diamond Jr., the late Eric Diamond (late Lori) and the late Valencia Raheem (late mohammed). He was also a dear brother-in-law to Rose Anderson (Skeet), John Foster (Lynn), and Jeremiah Foster (Mary) and uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. Robert’s heart was also devoted to his puggle, Maggie, and his wheaten terrier, Mojo, who brought him endless joy.
Robert's selfless spirit shone brightly in his many contributions to the community. He volunteered at voting polls, brought joy by dressing as Santa for church and family events, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand wherever needed. A man of many talents, Robert loved singing, watching WWE wrestling, and cheering for his favorite college football team, Ohio State. His candid humor often included playful critiques of basketball legends Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church, located at 10 Teller Avenue, Coram, NY 11727, from 9 AM to 11 AM, followed by a prayer service starting at 11 AM. Interment will take place following at Washington Memorial Park, 855 Canal Road, Mount Sinai, NY 11766.
Robert P. Butler will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His warmth, humor, and dedication to family and community will remain a cherished memory for all.
