Our mom has been a shining light to us and to so many. She had a passion for family and also extended to “la colonia” which in many ways was family by the simple fact that each of these 50 families all emigrated together from southern Spain to the US. She brought the passion of her Spanish roots to all that she did. As a beloved Spanish teacher at Miller Place high school and after retirement at Suffolk community college, she poured her love of Spanish culture, language and song into her students. Whether it was her traveling folkloric “estudiantina” musical troupe, bi annual trips to Spain, getting her students to love paella or “mantecados” or singing Spanish rock songs, our mom made every effort to share her love of Spain with everyone! She was and is the second mother to many as she always made sure “her” kids got to school, ate well, brushed/cut their hair and loved and encouraged them to do their best. Our mom was a unique individual who lived and loved fully and passionately. She will be missed terribly but her spirit will live on in so very many of us. We love you mom in more ways that you could ever imagine. We wouldn’t be who we are today without your everlasting love and guidance. Forever in our hearts, Luisa, Laura and Tony.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to our mother’s cherished language program that she started early in her career: Miller Place High School, Attn: LOTE Department 15 Memorial Drive, Miller Place, NY 11764

My deepest sympathy to the Lopez family on your loss. Mrs. Lopez made an indelible mark on my life as a young man. She helped to foster my love of language that has helped to make me the person I am today. She took our class to Spain. We had so many wonderful experiences there but first among them was when she took us to her hometown. So many years have passed (for me, 1981 - 1985) but I will never forget her energy, her purposeful stride, her love of young people and her passion for her culture and language. She was a wonderful person and teacher.

Rest in peace, Senora.

Luisa, Laura, Tony. We too mourn the loss of your mother. We share your pain. We greive together. At the same time we celebrate the incredible life and love of your mother. She was an amazing teacher, whose passion was evident in the way she encouraged, nurtured and bonded with her students. She was one of my favorite teachers at Miller Place High School. Her ever present smile and kindness was always a bright spot in my day. She shared so much culture and history with us we began to feel like family. We were blessed to be school mates, know each other's families, and grow together. I am grateful to have had some fabric of her time and life woven into mine. It holds many memories. I am also thankful for you, her children, whom I grew up with, and have the pleasure to know. She raised some mighty fine children and I know she is very proud of that. Thank you Mrs. Lopez. May the light you shined upon us, now reflect back on you.

Dear Luisa, Laura and Tony,
Thank you for sharing your mom with us. She was a great teacher in school( very professional) , but because we were your friends she opened her heart and home. She was a very classy strong woman. I will pray for you as it is a great loss. May you feel the love of Jesus holding you.

There aren't enough words to express the debt of gratitude I feel for Vicky Lopez. As our beloved "Senora" from 7th grade to 12th, she inspired the Spanish culture deep into our souls. When I decided to student-teach there was no other person on earth I wanted as my mentor. She did not hesitate to hire me in 1985 as a Spanish teacher in Miller Place, which "officially" began my 32 year teaching career. I owe my whole professional career to this one magnificent woman, who for me will always be larger than life. She was my teacher, mentor, role model, colleague and friend.
The world will be a little "emptier" without you Senora but you leave our hearts very full... with respect and love.

Sonia.
