William John Kelly of Port Jefferson, NY, passed away from complications of systemic scleroderma. He faced this challenge with courage, determination and a healthy dose of his trademark humor. Bill/Billy was a kind, gentle man with a keen intelligence, playful spirit, quick wit and abundant creative talent.
Beloved Bill is survived by:
His parents Anne Kelly-Edmunds and John D. Kelly.
His stepparents Leland N. Edmunds and Suzanne Kelly.
His sister Kathy, brother-in-law Leon, niece Alexandra and nephew Brian Schoemmell.
His grandmother Katherine Elaine O’Neill.
His oldest and best friend Dawn Chester. And,
His loving aunts, uncles, cousins and stepsisters.
Over the years, Billy’s pastimes included sketching, photography, playing the guitar and cooking. He enjoyed art, literature, films, “Monty Python”, Roger McGuinn concerts, Mexican food and taking care of his cat Clarence.
Bill was employed in the home security and heating system industry. Then, he worked in retail for many years, mostly as Presentation Team Leader for Target in East Setauket.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Scleroderma Foundation toward funding research to eradicate scleroderma and discovering more effective treatments.
