Bill was a great man.  Accomplished and respected in his field and a truly classy person.  I had the privilege to work for and with him on and off for sixteen years.  Because of the similarity of our names I was occasionally assumed to be his son.  I was always happy with that mistaken association.  He was a great guy.

Dad, No words can express how I feel.  You are my life line, my foundation and my heart. There's none more loving, or more giving, or as generous and unselfish as you have always been. You were the consummate gentleman, a quality not easily found these days. You touched people wherever you went with your words, your actions and simply with your sweet spirit.  You were a true servant in how you helped so many, often times putting your own needs last, because in your eyes it was just " the right thing to do." My pride for what you did as an FDNY fire fighter and Cheif is boundless. My pride in being your daughter , however, has no earthly way to be described. You were the first man I ever loved.  You showed me that I was valuable and precious everyday of my life without fail. When I was a little girl you gave me piggy back rides whenever I asked and I asked ALOT because I loved just being close to you. When I was in my twenties and had the flu and not living with you anymore you showed up at my door and took me to your house Just so you could take care of me. Then there was the time I called you after I had a car accident and I broke down when I heard your voice. I barely finished telling you where I was when ...there you were with a big hug, ready To take me home. In an age where many father's are absent from their children's lives, you could not have been more opposite. I always said you were like the poster child for fathers everywhere. Dad, if more men followed the example of selflessness , love and commitment to their children that you have always shown to yours ,  I know this world woukd be a much better  place because this world needs more men and more dads like Bill Nagle. You have always been and will continue to be my hero.  I can't wait to see you again. My love forever and ever,

You made such a huge difference for the citizens of NYC as a firefighter and later as one of the leading emergency management officials in the City and throughout the US. If I had one thing to say to my papa, all I would be able to say is "I love you". His strong arms around me... listening to his healthy strong heart... and hearing his voice one last time.  A kiss upon my head, his big smile, and his blue eyes looking into mine. That is all I want... my papa and me one last time.

I worked with Bill in Harlem in Ladder Co. 26-2. It was an exciting time for all of us. Going to a lot of fires and learning the job. We had many laughs on and off the job. Great memories. Bill was a very capable firefighter and later in his career a terrific leader as a Battalion Chief. He will not be forgotten!!,
