William James Schaal of Port Jefferson Station, NY, passed away on June 11, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on May 15, 1963, in the Bronx, NY, William lived a life rich in love, laughter, music, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He was the beloved husband of Rene, with whom he shared 42 beautiful years of marriage. Together they built a close-knit and loving family. William was a proud and devoted father to Vanessa Figliozzi (Maria), James, and Nicole Schaal. He was also a cherished "Papa" to his three adored grandchildren: Milo, Gemma, and Carson Figliozzi.
William’s heart was rooted in his family—he treasured every moment spent with them. He brought joy and laughter into their lives through his humor, his music, and his unforgettable presence. Whether cracking a sarcastic joke or strumming his guitar to a silly song he’d made up on the spot, William had a gift for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. One such memory was when he cleverly hid an Easter egg on his daughter Nicole and sang a playful tune as she searched for it for hours.
William had a deep appreciation for music—especially rock and roll and the blues he so dearly loved. Though he wasn’t a musician himself, he enjoyed listening to others play and learning about guitars, eventually even teaching himself how to build them. He could often be found enjoying concerts or sharing his musical spirit with friends and family. In addition to music, William had a love for technology. He was the go-to guy for fixing computers and electronics, always happy to lend a hand to anyone in need.
He had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life—night swimming in his backyard pool, the stories and adventures of Star Trek and Star Wars, and the magic of the holiday season. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and he upheld a beloved tradition: the Christmas tree wasn’t decorated until every immediate family member was present, turning the moment into a celebration of unity and love.
William’s legacy is one of warmth, humor, music, and tradition. He leaves behind a family who will continue to honor his memory by carrying forward the love and joy he brought into their lives.
A visitation for William will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776, with a prayer service in the evening. Final words of remembrance will be offered by the funeral director on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
In honor of William’s life, let us carry forward his music, his laughter, and the deep love he so freely gave.
