Amadeo Chavana Sr., lovingly known as “Po” by those closest to him, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on July 12, 1939, in Encinal, Texas, to the late Justo and Elvira Chavana.
A devoted member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Amadeo was a man of faith, family, and dedication. He will be remembered for the love he shared with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as the lasting example he leaves behind.
Amadeo worked as a meat cutter at H-E-B in Port Lavaca, retiring after 21 years. He looked forward to going to work each day and greatly enjoyed his job, his co-workers, and visiting with customers. On his breaks, he could often be found sitting on a bench outside, enjoying a banana and chocolate milk while greeting everyone who passed by with his trademark smile and kindness.
He is survived by his daughters, Alma Linda Delgado (Gene), Deborah Denise Townley (Arnold), and Terrie Delcampo; sons, Amadeo “Mario” Chavana Jr. (Audrey), Adrian Lee Chavana (Elizabeth), and Jesse Ray Chavana (Shannon); fifteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susie, his parents, Justo and Elvira Chavana, and his siblings.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Tommy Chen, will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church.
