Almost seven years what can I say that you don't already know as I get older I realize how much I need you . I miss our coffee time, but I felt you when I had surgery thank you. You made me laugh that would be you such a joker...just want to say I love you until we see each other again.

I love you Daddy no matter how many years go by, you were the light and life in my eyes. You are so missed everyday and to this day no one can compare to your life or achievements and all the things you did for all of us. We love you then, we love you now and always. It has been a year daddy and we all miss you dearly, your beautiful smile and your wisdom, but most of all just sitting with you and listening to your adventures of the sea, the coffee and meals we shared. I'm sitting here at work, hiding behind my computer and a smile and I'm "googling' you. I love you dad and I miss you so much. You are the best man I know, you will always be the best in my book and everything I want to be.

Aug 29, I 1'st met Capt Arnoldo in 1959 when we were both getting started in a prof. we both loved  & grew up in. Over the next 25 yr. we worked together off-shore many nights in FL.,Tex.and Mexico. He was always a professional full of love for family and life. He will be missed by one & all. Gus Bahruth

We loved seeing and taking care of Mr. Davila and it was my great privilege and honor to hear his life story and of his great love for his wife and family.  We are thinking of you all.

dear angie,  swinford and i were so sorry to learn of arnold's passing after his courageous fight. he always had a smile on his face despite the pain he was in and he is to be admired for the positive attitude he had over the years. please know you are in our thoughts and our hearts are filled with sympathy for you. it must be of great comfort to you to know he is with the Lord and no longer in pain.  kitty and swinford wilson

I had the honor of having Mr. Davila in my life...if only for a short time...it made the most difference for me. Mr. Davila showed me kindness and understanding. In my heart he was like a grandfather to me, being that my own was not around. He filled that void for me. He helped teach me the importance of reading. I will always keep those memories in my heart. God bless the Davilas...god be with you all.

We are  so sorry for your loss. Arnold was a great man & he never met a stranger no matter where he traveled.

Arnoldo "Cochise" Davila and I were dear friends. We fished together for a handful of years. We roamed from Newfoundland to Mexico, in pursuit of swordfish. It was a coming-of-age time for me, and he was a huge part of my life;  he was my captain, or "skippah" (my Boston accent never ceased to amuse him). 
 
   Stepping into his life was the greatest adventure of my life.  I often explain the experience by saying that regular life is good or bad, while life offshore is miserable or wonderful.  He and I, along with crusty old George, and my dog, Seamus, fought through the miserable and enjoyed the heck out of the wonderful.  I saw dolphins leap out of the water at sunset, and I stood at the wheel, steering the boat through a huge storm, with 100 foot tall waves. Whatever came our way.

    Arnold and I were unlikely friends. We came from wildly different backgrounds. He was the rough and ready Mexican-American with a hardscrabble upbringing, while I was the gentle young Boston Irishman with a college degree.  I think we were each hungry for what the other had.  He made sure that he taught me everything that he could, while he demanded to learn everything from me that I could offer. We shared our experiences, our families and friends, our cultures; we shared ourselves. He showed me Texas, but he needed to learn about Boston and New England. He taught me to drive the boat and to splice lines, but he needed to know all about the Irish. He was in awe of education;  "Patrick, you took courses at Harvard? Do you realize how lucky you are?"  No, maybe I hadn't fully understood my good fortune until that moment, though I'm not sure whether my memories of sitting in a college classroom taking notes can quite compare to the memory of Cochise laughing at me while I tried to ride a horse.  I was very lucky to meet him, as well.

   Arnold didn't tell me how to be a man. He showed me. He was a hard guy, tough as steel. But I saw tears in his eyes when we talked about being at sea, thousands of miles from his family.  You get to know a person pretty well when you're stuck on a boat, way offshore, working 20-hour days, for a month or two at a time. The man I got to know out there was a good man, an honorable, caring, generous and curious man. I valued every minute that we spent together. 

   A thousand memories that he and I shared are now mine, alone. I think that is were the terrible sadness comes from.   

  My deep affection and sympathy are with Angie, Ari, Zeke, and Sarita. The closer you were to him, the greater the effect he had on you. The more joy he brought you in life, unfortunately, the greater the pain you will feel at his loss. 

   I am now a high school Physics teacher, a husband, and a father. If I am the man of substance and character that I hope I am, I owe a debt for a part of that to Captain A. R. Davila.  Thank you, Cochise. I love you and I miss you.

It is with great sadness that I heard that Arnold had passed away.  I got to know him during his time with TPWD Coastal Fisheries.  I truly respected his knowledge of the sea and I valued his willingness to ever so professionally share his stories, his knowledge and his passion with me and others.  I felt he and I had a very personal friendship bond.  I valued that he came to Rockport when some of his colleagues retired. We would visit then and occasionally by telephone.  I am blessed that he touched my life.  Grace and Peace.

Arnold, known as Sunny to the Garcia family grew up with the Garcia Boys Jesse, Ben, Tony, and John.  They had many memories together growing up.  Separated by family obligations, they remained in contact, not as often as should have but kept each other in their hearts.  Arnold, had a big heart, was a hard provider, loved his wife unconditionally and worshiped his childred.  Known to all as such a wonderful human being who gave and asked nothing in return.  Our condolences to the family from  Jesse and Ben, Loy, Margaret, Delia and Minnie Garcia.
