January 2, 1941 – September 1, 2026
Doug Sistare, 85, of Port Lavaca, passed away on September 1, 2026. He was born on January 2, 1941, in Beaufort, South Carolina, to Henry and Myrtle Sistare.
Doug lived a life of service, adventure, family, and plenty of good stories along the way. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Coast Guard and retired after a long, honorable career. Following his Coast Guard service, Doug continued his love of the water as a Pilot Boat Captain for the Matagorda Bay Pilot Association.
Doug enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved cheering for The University of Alabama, the New York Yankees, and the Green Bay Packers. Whether his team was winning or testing his patience, Doug was always ready to watch, cheer, and share his opinion. He also enjoyed a good round of golf and a spirited game of cards with his friends and family. Doug always loved cooking a good meal for everyone to enjoy.
His family was his greatest source of pride and love. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Lee; his daughter, Mollee Anne Thiede (Terry); his sister, Marjorie Lynn Hoffman (Buddy); his brothers, Pat Sistare (Guerry), and Bill Sistare (Cindy); and sister-in-law Renae Sistare. Doug is also survived by his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Doug also had a very special place in his heart for his four-legged family. He dearly loved his dog, Bella, and his beloved four-legged granddaughter, Cardee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Myrtle Sistare, his brothers, and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Rhonda Sistare, and Mike Sistare.
Doug was a member of the Lighthouse Methodist Church of Port Lavaca and cherished the friendships and fellowship that he found there.
A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Lighthouse Methodist Church of Port Lavaca. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Memorial service at 10:30 a.m.
