Gilbert O. Jones went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, September 25, 2023. He was born January 6,1931 to the late Charles Jones and Velma Hall Jones. Gilbert served in the Army Air Corps during WW2 as a radar mechanic and received the Korean medal and United Nations Medal. After returning home, he worked for Alcoa for 20 years as an electrician and air conditioning specialist. He then went onto Union Carbide for another 25 years. He married the love of his life, Velma Lee Lambright, February 14, 1967. He was a member of the Seadrift Sop Sloppers for many years traveling Texas in search of the title “best barbecue”. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years in Seadrift. He was very proud of all the young men he was able to assist along the journey to becoming an Eagle Scout.
Gilbert loved to help anyone in need of an electrician, air condition technician or carpenter. Whatever it was, he was always ready to lend a hand. After retiring from Union Carbide, Gilbert and Velma traveled the US with their precious grandson, Sterling, in tow. When they weren’t traveling, they could be found in the yard watering the grass and plants or taking his daily walks. He would walk 5 miles every day, until he reached the age of 87 when he cut back to 2 miles a day. He sure loved to walk. Gilbert and Velma were the solid rock for many grandchildren along the way. He was a member of the First Assembly of God church and loved our lord and savior.
Gilbert is survived by his daughter, Tanya Jones and her fiancé, Wesley Cunningham; son, Shane (Kristen) Jones; grandsons, Sterling (Courtney) Cash, Chris (Gannon) Holder and Craig Jones; granddaughters, Velma (Andy) Metz, Sandy (Jim) McCullough, Amber (Wayne) Jeffers and Elizabeth (Jeremy) Cantu; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Sherry Lambright and brother-in-law, Odis Lambright.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Velma; daughter, Cindy Jones; brothers, Billy and Bobby Jones; and sisters, Letha and Donnella.
