Janie Sue Hawkins (Record), 73, went to rest eternally with her Lord on Sunday, October 29, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born July 1,1950 to Elizabeth Hennessy Record and James Alfred Record in Port Lavaca, Texas. Janie was the middle child of nine siblings. She graduated from Calhoun High School with the Class of 1967, going on to attend a business administration program in Houston. She was employed by many Houston companies over years and was owner of Janie McBride, Inc. from 1970’s - 1982. Her company was the primary bookkeeper for the Houston Area Water District and multiple Homeowners Associations for new housing subdivisions that were being built. Later she owned and operated a Catholic Book Store in the Houston suburbs. As her family expanded, she turned her attention to raising her children.
As a mother, her favorite job, Janie had two daughters with her first husband and added two sons with her second husband and love of her life, Tommy Hawkins. Once her children were into adulthood, she and her loving husband returned to Port Lavaca/Magnolia Beach to live a slower life. Following Tommy's passing, Janie was called to assist her siblings with the caring for their ailing parents. Janie was a lifetime member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Port Lavaca, Texas.
Janie is survived by her four children: Trisa (David) Workman of Marion, Ohio; Heather (Ethan) Deal of West Harrison, Indiana; Eric Hawkins of Victoria, Texas; and Jeremy (Nancy) Hawkins of Houston, Texas. She also leaves her 10 beloved grandchildren: Amanda (Ryan) Shirley, Steven (Aleigha) Workman, Evelyn Hill, Brittney Bahena, Kenneth Bahena, Luke Hawkins, Brooke Hawkins, Hannah Hawkins, Abigail Hawkins and Samual Hawkins.
Janie is also survived by her siblings: Marjorie Jacks of Fort Worth, Texas; Dolores Loyd (C. C. Loyd, Jr.) of Waco, Texas; James Record, MD (Peggy) of Victoria, Texas; Helen McIntire (Stan) of Lake Jackson, Texas; and Gwen Salyer (Shannon) of Magnolia Beach, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hawkins; parents, James & Elizabeth Record; sister, Mary Beth Rabenaldt; brothers, John Wesley Record and Kenneth W. Record.
Rosary will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 at 9:25AM at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, with memorial mass beginning at 10AM. Inurnment will follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery. The family will gather to celebrate Janie's life with a private dinner following the ceremonies.
