John “Jack” H. Burleson, 80, of Port Lavaca passed away October 28, 2013 at his home after a brief illness under the loving care of his family and Hospice of South Texas. He was born October 25, 1933 in Liberty Hill, TX to the late Rufus Hill and Bessie Garner Burleson. He graduated from Calhoun High School and attended Victoria College and The University of Texas at Austin. He was the owner of Burleson Tax and Financial for 58 years and retired this past September. He was Precinct 1 Democratic Chairman of the Democratic Party; secretary of S.O.A.R., retired from Alcoa and held many offices at the Port Lavaca First United Methodist Church and was an officer of Calhoun County Texas-Ex Students Association, former Boy Scout Leader of Troop 243 Port Lavaca.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Burleson of Port Lavaca; son, Bryan Golz of San Antonio; daughters, Gennie (David) Westbrook of League City, Johna (Billie) Dorries of San Antonio, Joni (Paul) Bretschneider of Haltom City, Leslie (Tim) Daniels of Lake Havusa City, Arizona; sisters, Joan (Earl) Burleigh of Aransas Pass, Marylou (Vernon) Sauer of Hartwell, Georgia, Margie (Lee) Forster of Houston; grandchildren, Stephanie Westbrook, John (Anna) Westbrook, Billie R. (Alicia) Dorries III, Renée Bretschneider, Micah Bretschneider, Sarah, Dillon & Cody Daniels; great-grandchildren, Celeste Sanchez and Adam Dorries; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved cats, Ching, Chang, Ali and Sassy.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alva Mae Haese Burleson and parents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca. Memorial Services will be Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Porterfield officiating.
