
John, the eldest of 16 children was born in Plum, Texas on February 14, 1928 to John W. and Julia (Chovanec) Novak. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Point Comfort, Texas. He retired from Alcoa. John was a member of Knights of Columbus and the KJT. John served in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict (1952-1954).
John’s passions were his family, his garden, pecan trees and taking care of his cows. He loved playing the organ and accordion.
He is survived by his wife Josephine (Kalisek), daughter Jo Ann (David) Killough of South Padre Island; daughter Cynthia Ruland of Olivia; son John Jr. (Rebecca Schultz) Novak of Sweeny and son Mark (Shelly Hahn) Novak of Olivia. Grandchildren Valarie (Killough) and Brandon Strubberg, Alisha Killough, John Eric Novak and fiancé Rachel Greenlee, Dustin Novak, Amanda Novak, Joseph Ruland, Mark Ruland, Anthony Novak, Jimmy Novak and great-grandson Chance Novak. Brothers: Ludvick (Mildred) Novak of Needville, Frank (Marie) Novak of Houston, Anton (Patsy) Novak of Manvel, Tim (Bernie) Novak of Needville, and Joe (Nancy) Novak of El Campo. Sisters: Theresa Todd of Baton Rouge, Annie Mae (Joe) Stransky of Needville, Tonie (Anton) Kramer of Needville, Evelyn (Pete) Waterloo of Crosby, Mary Andel of Sugar Land, Martha (Emil) Matura of Fayetteville, Della (John) Wadephul of Wallis and Frances (Robert) Marshall of Alvin.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edwin, sister Julie (Novak) Dirba and brother in laws Jerry Dirba and James Todd.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Port Lavaca on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenburg, Texas at 2:30 P.M. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 5-8 P.M with a rosary at 7 P.M at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: John Eric Novak, Dustin Novak, Anthony Novak, Mark Ruland, Joseph Ruland and Brandon Strubberg. Honorary pallbearers, grandson, Jimmy Novak and great-grandson, Chance Novak.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to: St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Point Comfort; Olivia Fire Department; or Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School, Port Lavaca.
