

Marilyn M. Hochstein 76 of Port Lavaca passed away July 8, 2011. She was born in Carroll, NE to the late Joseph and Lydia Pflanz Allar. Marilyn was a very active member of Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic Church, a charter member of The Catholic Daughters, and an active member of the Altar Society, and Jesus Caritas (formerly St. Vincent DePaul). She also served on the board of the local chapter of Catholic Life. Marilyn enjoyed her work with her favorite charities, spending time with her family, and her hobbies included: bowling, sewing, golfing, gardening, and cooking for others. Marilyn was known for her outstanding cooking, her infectious laugh, and her generous heart.
Marilyn truly enjoyed the life of an Air Force wife. She enjoyed moving to different parts of the country and she did everything she could to make each move a wonderful adventure for the family. Bob and Marilyn made their home in Port Lavaca in 1971 when Bob was stationed at Matagorda Island . She quickly immersed herself into the community, the church, and supporting her children’s activities.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert “Bob” Hochstein; her son, Steve Hochstein and wife , Liz of Pearland; daughters, Cindy Garza and husband ,Roland of Richmond, and Patty Weaver and husband Gary of Port Lavaca; 2 sisters, Rosella Mueret of Brunswick, NE and Velma Gries of Norfolk, NE.; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6 pm followed by a Rosary at 7 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic Church. Lunch will be served at St. Jude Hall immediately after the Mass . A private family burial will follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic School.
