Alan was born to Ambrose and Marguerite Hanley on August 31,1935 in Peru, Illinois. His family then moved to Florida in 1949, where he would spend the majority of his life. He graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic School and attended Daytona Beach Community College.
In 1954, Alan married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (“Pat”) Dene Sweeney. Together they were blessed with four children. That same year, Alan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably from 1954 to 1957, attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, recognitions that reflected the integrity, discipline, and character he carried throughout his life.
He supported his family as the proprietor of several service stations for Gulf Oil. In his free time, Alan enjoyed everything about cars, fishing, football, jai alai, reading, watching movies and spending time with his family.
In 1978, Alan married Deborah (“Debbie”) Hanley and in 1986, they welcomed their daughter, Joanna Elizabeth Hanley. His close relationship with Joanna and her young family brought profound joy to the second half of his life.
Throughout his life, Alan found strength and grace in his faith. He attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and Church and then Epiphany Catholic Church.
Alan’s dry sense of humor and sharp wit endeared him to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Marguerite Hanley; his in-laws Alice and Spencer Roberts; his siblings-in-law Paddy Hanley, Lorna Roberts, Bonnie Roberts, Bob Horner, Bob Sweeney, and Larney Dragoo; and his niece Karen Dragoo and nephew Rick Hanley; his first wife, Patricia Hanley-Alvord and his children’s grandparents- Dene and Thomas Sweeney.

Alan’s family is especially grateful for the daily care provided by his youngest daughter, Joanna, in his last years of life that allowed him to spend his final days comfortably at home.
As a husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, Alan leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, laughter, and love. His impact will be felt for generations, and he will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
