

Anthony P. Hemingway Jr. (Jay-Are) 20, of Port Orange passed away April 28, 2010. Born on September 23, 1989 in Spokane, Washington, Jay-Are attended pre-school at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan and Kindergarten at Little Flower Catholic School in Minot, ND. After moving to Port Orange with his family in 1997, he attended Spruce Creek Elementary School and graduated from Spruce Creek High School, Class of 2008. A gifted athlete, Jay-Are played on Spruce Creek’s Varsity Football and Basketball teams and planned to become a volunteer coach of the Spruce Creek High football team this fall. He also played on the State Champion Elite Hawks basketball team through the USSSA and played soccer with the Port Orange Stingrays. After graduating from High School, he attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and was currently a student at Daytona State College. While going to school, Jay-Are worked at Countryside Lakes ALF, CiCi’s Pizza and most recently at Chick-Fil-A . His memberships include Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church where he was a member of the youth group, YMCA and Elite Muay Thai. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Rowena C. and Anthony P. Hemingway, Sr., his brother, Jonathan P. Hemingway, his sister RyShele O. Hemingway all of Port Orange and his sister Tynya E. Marshall of Peoria, Arizona; grandmother Lourdes D. Carreon, the Philippines; Aunt Helen and Uncle Kevin Tucker and cousins Kevin Tucker, II and Jazmyn Tucker of Ormond Beach; Uncle & Aunt Woodrow and Darla Hemingway and cousins Ellirose Hemingway, Sheron Decker and Rolando Decker of Marion, SC; cousin Iceling Greene of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and many more loving Aunts, Uncles & Cousins living in the Philippines, NY, NJ & SC, and of course, his pet cat, Oscar. His Uncle Paul Hemingway predeceased him. The family will receive friends on Sat 6-8 p.m., and Sunday 2-4 & 6-8- p.m. at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 3, 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 4675 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange; Burial will follow at Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anthony P. Hemingway Memorial Fund, Wachovia Bank, 1300 Beville Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
