Benjamin H. Gartrell Jr., 88, better known as Homer Gartrell, passed away February 4, 2026. A resident of Port Orange, FL, he was born in Atlanta, GA, on May 13, 1937. He met and fell in love with Virginia (nee Green), marrying her on April 5, 1968 – a union that lasted almost 58 years.
Homer worked as a Water Plant Operator for the City of Daytona Beach, and had a passion for NASCAR, and later in life, watching golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Orene (nee Hulsey) Gartrell, sister Lucy, and brother George.
His life and legacy will be cherished by his wife, Virginia Gartrell, daughter Teresa Allen, sons Adam and Darryl Leverett, and son David Gartrell.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Port Orange, FL, with interment following at Daytona Memorial Park, Daytona Beach.
